Inspired by the dua of Prophet Yunus (AS) in Surah Al-Anbiya (21:87), this necklace is a reminder that no darkness is too deep for Allah's mercy to reach you. A symbol of tawheed, repentance, and unwavering hope, may it encourage you to turn to Allah in your most difficult moments, knowing that He hears every call.
“There is no god ˹worthy of worship˺ except You. Glory be to You! I have certainly done wrong.”
— Surah Al-Anbiya 21:87
لَّا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا أَنتَ سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي كُنتُ مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ
The story of Prophet Yunus (AS) is one of the most beautiful reminders of Allah's mercy, forgiveness, and the power of turning back to Him, even when we find ourselves in the darkest moments of our lives.
Yunus (AS) was sent to guide a people who had turned toward idol worship and rejected his message. After repeatedly calling them to Allah, he became disheartened by their refusal to believe. Frustrated and believing that punishment would soon befall them, he departed from his people before receiving Allah's permission to leave.
He boarded a heavily loaded ship, where circumstances led to lots being drawn, and Yunus (AS) was cast into the sea. By Allah's decree, he was swallowed by a great fish.
Imagine the darkness he found himself in. The darkness of the night, the depths of the ocean, and the belly of the fish. Completely isolated from the world, with no means of escaping through his own strength.
Yet even there, in a place where no human being could reach him, he knew that Allah could hear him.
And so he called upon his Lord with one of the most powerful duas in the Qur'an:
“There is no god ˹worthy of worship˺ except You. Glory be to You! I have certainly done wrong.”
In these few words, Yunus (AS) acknowledged three extraordinary truths: the oneness of Allah, His absolute perfection, and his own need for forgiveness.
He did not make excuses for his actions or despair over his circumstances. Instead, he turned to Allah with complete humility, recognizing that his only hope was in the mercy of his Lord.
And Allah answered him.
In the following verse, Allah tells us:
“So We answered his prayer and rescued him from anguish. And so do We save the believers.” — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:88
Yunus (AS) was delivered from the belly of the fish and cast upon the shore, where Allah provided for his recovery. His people, meanwhile, had turned toward faith, and Allah spared them from punishment.
What I find especially beautiful about this story is that Yunus (AS) was surrounded by layers of darkness, yet his dua still reached Allah.
Sometimes, we experience moments in life when we feel completely trapped by our circumstances. We may feel overwhelmed by our mistakes, exhausted by our trials, or uncertain of how we will ever find our way forward.
But the story of Yunus (AS) reminds us that there is no situation beyond Allah's power, no darkness beyond His knowledge, and no sincere repentance that we should hesitate to bring before Him.
I created this necklace to keep the dua of Yunus (AS) close — a reminder to return to Allah with humility, especially when life feels impossible to navigate.
My prayer is that whenever you wear this necklace, you remember the strength of these words. May they remind you to seek forgiveness when you fall short, to hold firmly to tawheed, and to never lose hope in Allah's mercy.
And when you find yourself surrounded by your own darkness, may you remember that the same Lord who heard Yunus (AS) in the depths of the ocean hears you wherever you are.
May Allah answer our duas, forgive our shortcomings, and deliver us from our hardships, just as He delivered Yunus (AS) from his anguish, inshaAllah.
