٢:١۸٦
وَإِذَا سَأَلَكَ عِبَادِى عَنِّى فَإِنِّى قَرِيبٌ ۖ
Allah says that He will answer the call of the caller, with no conditions. Even if the caller has sinned, or has transgressed; He will answer whoever the caller is. Allah doesn’t say mention anything about the call of the believer, the call of the Muslim, the call of the non sinner, the call of the righteous, or the call of the hijabi—He mentions the call of the caller. Anyone who calls qualifies to be a caller. This ayah is a reminder that Allah is close to us in His knowledge and power. Allah opens the invitation to anyone who wants to call upon Him, and He gives us certainty that He will reply.
The sahabah used to asked the prophet PBUH about several areas of life and he PBUH used to get the revelation in the form of “tell them”, because it was Allah that would tell the prophet PBUH what to relay onto the Ummah.
In this ayah, when the sahabah ask the prophet PBUH about Allah, the ayah doesn’t say to “tell them”, instead it directly describes the closeness of Allah, removing even the prophet PBUH from the oneness and directness we have with our Lord when it comes to duaa—duaa is a direct call from the slave to Allah.

Dua is devotion—asking Allah for something is in itself worship. This ayah is a reminder that Allah is close to us in His knowledge and power. Allah opens the invitation to anyone who wants to call upon Him, and He gives us certainty that He will reply. Don’t be afraid to ask Allah for anything, because He is shy to turn our praying hands away empty handed.
