The Birds of Tawakkul Collection

“If you were to rely upon Allah with the reliance He is due, He would provide for you just as He provides for the birds. They go out in the morning hungry and return in the evening full.”

There is something incredibly beautiful about the way a bird begins each morning.

It leaves its nest without knowing exactly where it will find its next meal, how far it will have to fly, or what the day ahead will bring.

And yet, it still flies.

Not because it knows where its provision will come from, but because Allah, the One who created it, is also the One who sustains it.

In a beautiful hadith narrated by Umar ibn Al-Khattab (RA), the Prophet ﷺ reminds us that if we were to rely upon Allah with the reliance He deserves, He would provide for us just as He provides for the birds.

They leave their nests in the morning hungry and return in the evening full.

What I find especially meaningful about this hadith is that the birds do not remain in their nests waiting for provision to arrive.

They leave. They search. They make an effort.

And through that effort, they rely upon Allah to provide what they need.

This is the essence of tawakkul.

It is not sitting still and waiting for life to unfold. It is doing what is within our control while placing our trust in the One who controls everything beyond it.

Sometimes, we become so overwhelmed by uncertainty that we hesitate to take the next step. We worry about whether an opportunity will work out, whether our efforts will be rewarded, or whether the future will unfold as we hope.

We want reassurance before we begin. We want to know that the path ahead will lead somewhere good.

But the bird reminds us that we do not need to see the entire journey before taking flight.

We simply need to make the effort, seek what is good, and trust Allah with the outcome.
